ON THE RECORD VOL. 1
Project Background
On The Record Vol.1 is a research-led print publication created by BUMP Agency to explore how brands can build stronger relationships with Gen Z through community, not influence. It draws from IOM’s digital dance music community and includes insight from over 1,800 music fans and industry figures. I was brought in as a freelance designer to help shape the direction, work on layouts, and build the visual system alongside BUMP’s in-house designer Adam Hepburn.
Creative Direction
The publication blends data and storytelling through a visual language that’s bold, direct and grounded in culture. Big type, cropped images, doodles and scans sit next to clean layouts and structured sections. The aim was to feel like part of the scene, not just a report looking in.
Outcome
The result is a print piece that feels both credible and alive. It speaks to brand managers and music fans in equal measure. It doesn’t just talk about community but shows what it looks like. Designed to feel flick-throughable and intentional at the same time, On The Record Vol.1 builds a case for community-first marketing by showing the people behind the numbers.
