MELD RECORD LABEL IDENTITY

Project Background

Meld Records is a London-based electronic music label, originally founded in Aberdeen. The label sits at the intersection of UK techno and UK bass, releasing music from artists including Kavari, LWS and Bolam. The identity was developed alongside Adam Hepburn, a close collaborator, and is shaped by the origin of the label, both geographically and sonically.

The logo acts as a directional marker, always pointing north-east. This became a core idea, a reference to the label’s origins and the forward motion of the music. Much of the visual direction draws from industrial environments, signage systems and warning symbols. The aim was to create a framework that complements the textured, weighty sound Meld represents.

Creative Direction

The system avoids decoration. It’s structured, but open. Each release begins from the same foundation: logo, type, layout. It then builds outward in response to the artist or the record.

The cover artworks reflect an even balance across grit and weight, but also warmth and memory. Each one holds its own tone while sitting in unity with the discography.

Outcome

A long-term identity built to hold variation. Quiet, consistent and adaptable. Designed to sit behind the work, not in front of it, and to grow with the label over time.
